Social media doesn’t directly affect search rankings, BUT social media is a great way to drive visitors and traffic to your website and possibly more conversions. There’s tons of evidence showing that even though social media isn’t a direct factor, it’s still strongly influential in SEO rankings.
A study done by Hootsuite proved the strong correlation between social activity and search rankings. First, they compared the SEO rankings of articles with and without social media promotion. In their result, they found out that articles with top social media shares got an average 22% boost in ranking during the experiment.
With the continuous growth of social media usage, where businesses and organizations are flooding social media users with experiences, recommendations, and personal opinions, it is impossible for any business to stay out of the social marketing channel without feeling the consequences. They are simply losing customers every day that they aren’t present and using social media as a marketing channel.
According to Pew Research, from June 2019:
- 72% of the general public uses some type of social media (up from 52% in 2011)
- 18-29 (90%)
- 30-49 (82%)
- 50-64 (69%)
- 65+ (40%)
- Today around 69% (seven-in-ten) Americans use social media to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information and entertain themselves.
- More than half of the online young adults (53%), people ranging from 18 to 29, use Instagram. And, almost half of all Instagram users use it daily.
Integrate your digital marketing efforts with social media platforms. This is where Social Media Marketing (SMM) enters the picture. Facebook and Instagram are the leaders when it comes to social media marketing for small business. Both have ad platforms that are much more cost-effective than Google Ads, which helps immensely when you are on a tight budget. Social media has revolutionized how companies communicate with, listen to, and learn from, customers much like TV advertising did in the 20th century. SMM benefits your business with increased exposure & increased internet traffic, generation of leads, developing loyal fans, increased sales, and building business-to-consumer (B2C) relationships or business-to-business (B2B) partnerships.
